CPA allows communities to create a local Community Preservation Fund for open space protection, historic preservation, affordable housing and outdoor recreation. Community preservation monies are raised locally through the imposition of a surcharge of not more than 3% of the tax levy against real property, and provides for exemptions to the surcharge for the first $100,000 of assessed value for residential properties as well as exempting properties occupied by low and moderate income residents, which includes many elderly residents. CPA is adopted by ballot referendum. Would you be in favor of adopting the CPA to enhance the community's ability to protect vital open space areas, historic resources, or recreational lands?
